Prewriting and Peer Review

As I mentioned on the main Repurposing page, I knew first that I wanted to write in Winnie-the-Pooh style and only later figured out the actual content of my piece. I had a few ideas. First and simplest, was just a children's story based off Pooh. This is what I ended up choosing, however I chose between a story along the lines of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie or even an animated version of the story, as seen here. I also contemplated  writing in the style of a more traditional children's book, The Magic Treehouse series. I was inspired by going to the series' website (I guess entertained, not inspired; we're all still children inside!), so I considered this for a long time. However, for simplicity's sake, I chose to stick to Pooh because I was already trying something so challenging, I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew.

My peer reviews were helpful, mostly because it validated what I thought I needed to work on more, namely that I had explicit mention of rape and murder in a children's book and that I make it more enjoyable for adults. Besides the aforementioned rape and murder, the story was definitely catered toward children. This helped me re-vamp the latter half of the story (basically, the story of Perseus and Medusa) to make it more child-friendly and more enjoyable for adults to read.
